Internship Aims

Internship programs are designed to offer exposure to students and working professionals from varied academic and professional backgrounds. The design of an internship depends on both the interest and skill areas of the interns as well as requirements of Pehal

  • Provide an opportunity to interns, to put into practice and deepen their theoretical knowledge of development issues
  • Provide the interns the platform to develop a more grounded understanding of child rights challenges in an Indian context
  • Give interns an opportunity to learn advocacy, researching, campaigning, networking skills and operational aspects of development work
  • Provide opportunities to strengthen, scale up and build volunteer programmes
  • Provide exposure for interns to act for child rights in their daily lives

Note: No stipend is offered. The incidental costs pertaining to the assignment may be covered.

Prerequisites of Interns

  • Should be above 18 years of age
  • Should be in college/ recent pass out
  • Good social skills
  • Good English writing skills
  • Open minded and creative
  • Should be able to put in a minimum of 4 weeks; 6 weeks or more is desirable
  • Should give full time and intensive commitment
  • Should believe in values upheld by Pehal – Respect for Human Dignity, Transparency, Innovation, Accountability, Secularism, Non-Violence, Working in Partnership

The Application Process

  • If we might have a placement available for you, we’ll chat with you on the phone or Skype to go through your application and make sure it’s a good match.
  • We’ll set up a call between you and the person who would be your supervisor during the work placement.
  • If you clear the interview process, we’ll provisionally confirm your placement!

Marketing and Communication Interns

As an intern, your role will be designed according to your specific skills, academic focus, and desired learning outcomes, but it can include the following:

Job Description

  • Assist with Digital Marketing and Communication strategy and content creation: social media run (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, LinkedIn), newsletter, blog post and website
  • Identify fundraising opportunities locally or internationally and assist with (online) fundraising campaigns
  • Maintain donor relations
  • Assist in day-to-day management of the centre, volunteer coordination and administrative tasks
  • Support the design and implementation of development projects
  • Assist in Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Every intern will regularly be involved in helping create stimulating, educative, and fun activities and offering organizational support to several Zilla Parishad Schools
  • Additional Responsibilities during the events will designated as per the requirement

Requirements

  • Preferably background or experience in Communications, (Digital) Marketing or Journalism or similar
  • Experience and/or interest in Fundraising is a nice to have
  • Enjoy working with children and people of different cultures
  • Interest in community projects

NGO Management Interns

Job Description

  • Assist in day-to-day operations
  • Support the design and implementation of development projects at the educational centre or within the community
  • Assist run social media (Facebook, Instagram, twitter, LinkedIn) with daily photo and news updates
  • Identify fundraising opportunities locally or internationally and assist in grant writing
  • Contribute to the overall strategy and growth of the NGO
  • General support to the NGO’s board members with operational and administrative tasks
  • Additional Responsibilities during the events will designated as per the requirement

Requirements

  • Background in Development Cooperation, Management or a related field
  • A strategic mind is important to drive and achieve positive, sustainable change
  • Self-motivated, flexible, independent, adaptable, warm-hearted, loving and caring
  • The ability to respect and work with different cultures
  • Excellent organizational and management skills
  • Positive, ambitious and passionate

Fundraising Interns

Job Description

  • Research grant opportunities and writing applications
  • Research corporate funding opportunities and writing and submitting proposals
  • Assist with donor relationship management
  • Assist with managing online communication channels
  • Assist with monitoring and evaluation
  • Writing reports for donors
  • Additional Responsibilities during the events will designated as per the requirement

Requirements

  • Some experience in fundraising is beneficial
  • Good research skills
  • An interest in development work

Teaching Interns

Job Description

  • Teach or assistant teach classes at primary classes (children range in ages from 4 to 13). The main subjects are English, maths, science, and social studies
  • Teach digital education to children
  • Teach physical education classes and coach the kids in a range of sports (including swimming)
  • Help develop our curriculum
  • Assist with extracurricular activities, which can include drama, music, and arts
  • Additional Responsibilities during the events will designated as per the requirement

Requirements

  • Ideally some teaching experience
  • An interest in development work
  • A flexible attitude and willingness to travel to villages in rural Maharashtra

Job Description

  • Conduct regular surveys in Zilla Parishad Schools
  • Identify the new schools to setup more events
  • Design the future path for the NGO
  • Bring in new innovative methods to encourage children to come school
  • Plan to leverage use of computers in Zilla Parishad Schools

Requirements

  • Ideally preferred a Management background student
  • Good Researcher
  • A flexible attitude and willingness to travel to villages in rural Maharashtra
